What’s New in Mobile Marketing Platforms for Canadian Real Estate


Take a look at the above chart from the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) if you haven’t already.

The growth in number of text messages delivered is astounding. Number of text messages sent daily doubled from 45M to 90M just from Q1 2008 to Q1 2009. Boom! The explosion SMS marketers know all too well and love. Numerous and novel mobile marketing technologies are now rushing in to fill the ensuing void.

A common theme among new and existing mobile marketing platforms is that they are implementation specific. Marketers are presented with packaged solutions like: “Text-To-Win”, “Mobile Coupons”, “Mobile Alerts” etc.

One such product to gain popularity is text message marketing for real estate. This is where agents or property owners place a call-to-action e.g. “Text [Keyword] to [short code] for info” directly on the sign outside the property. Upon texting, buyers (passing by) receive an SMS auto response with listing details. The agent or property owner is then able to take advantage of an always-on connection with potential buyers.

Goomzee, a Missoula, MT-based developer of a mobile marketing solution is one of the companies to recently make a splash in this space.  On March 30, 2010, Goomzee announced that it secured a $1.5 million Series A round of funding led by Highway 12 Ventures along with additional, undisclosed investors in the US and Europe.

Goomzee offers a robust mobile marketing application, realty connect. The platform offers downloadable lead history and statistics and virtual photo tour as an ad on. The platform caters to large clients as well as individuals willing to purchase a three keyword minimum. It appears Goomzee sends a separate SMS message with an images slideshow WAP link. It is unclear how Goomzee’s image slideshow functions on all phones.  

Canada has been on Gomzee’s roadmap since at least 2008 according to VP Business Development, Jordan Lind. Their website however, does not have any mention of Canadian launch as yet. 2010 seems to have started off well. I’d keep my eyes peeled as Goomzee might be about to bring Canadian real estate agents ever closer to “the close.”
