Wind Mobile, Nokia Networks Commit to Better Experience for Canadian Customers

Nokia Networks will work with Wind Mobile as its network infrastructure provider and innovation partner to bring LTE network technology to Wind customers.

Nokia Networks says it will deploy cloud-based core technologies that enable VoLTE, VoWi-Fi and IMS services. The result, says Wind, will significantly increase network capacity and speed, achieve substantial network efficiency gains, and deliver a better network experience for customers.

Under a five-year deal, Nokia Networks will provide an end-to-end solution; the modernization of Wind’s network will involve network implementation, network planning and optimization and care services in order to ensure quality and a successful upgrade.

“We have worked with Nokia Networks since our inception in 2009, and they have been a trusted partner as we’ve expanded our footprint and subscriber base over the years. This new partnership with Nokia Networks as our sole source LTE network provider allows WIND to bring the most advanced technologies available to our customers,” Alek Krstajic, CEO, Wind Mobile, said.

“Wind has put its complete trust in us, and we are committed to helping them bring new technologies and capabilities to the market, and achieve their goal of delivering the best network experience for their customers,” noted Ricky Corker, Executive Vice President of North America, Nokia Networks.

“With Nokia, Wind is positioned as Canada’s fourth largest wireless provider, bringing affordable wireless service to even more Canadians,” added Krstajic.

Wind also announced the closing of a new senior secured debt facility that allows up to $425 million of total financing to support its plans for network enhancement and the deployment of LTE using equipment and services supplied by Nokia.
