Yahoo is on a war path—against its own products.
The struggling company is shutting down seven products that it has deemed “unsuccessful.” One of thise products is Yahoo’s mobile app for BlackBerry.
“The most critical question we ask is whether the experience is truly a daily habit that still resonates for all of you today,” wrote Jay Rossiter, Yahoo’s executive vice president of platforms. The BlackBerry app will no longer be available for download as of April 1 and no further support will be offered for it.
Yahoo currently has as many as 75 mobile apps, but plans to prune that number down to 15 over time. Other Yahoo products set to be terminated this year include Yahoo App Search, Yahoo Sports IQ, Yahoo Clues, and the Yahoo Updates API.
We’re not surprised to see Yahoo put a BlackBerry-related product on the chopping block, considering CEO Marissa Mayer doesn’t even consider the original smartphone to be a smartphone.
