{"id":31504,"date":"2012-08-27T07:08:00","date_gmt":"2012-08-27T03:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/?p=31504"},"modified":"2012-08-27T07:08:51","modified_gmt":"2012-08-27T03:08:51","slug":"indigo-books-partners-with-canadian-startup-to-launch-textbook-rentals","status":"publish","type":"magazine","link":"https:\/\/brainstation.io\/magazine\/indigo-books-partners-with-canadian-startup-to-launch-textbook-rentals","title":{"rendered":"Indigo Books Partners with Canadian Startup to Launch Textbook Rentals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chapters.indigo.ca\/books\/textbooks\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 15px auto; display: block;\" src=\"http:\/\/images.chapters.indigo.ca\/allegria\/misc\/seasonal\/bts\/bts_trigger_textbooks.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"64\" \/><\/a>Earlier this month <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/technology\/businessinsider\/article\/College-Students-Rejoice-Amazon-Now-Rents-3769153.php\">Amazon.com launched a textbook rental service<\/a> allowing US students to borrow print editions for a school term at up to 70 per cent off the price of new titles.<\/p>\n<p>Not to be outdone by their behemoth US competitor, Canada&#8217;s largest book retailer is following suit and has partnered with a Canadian startup to make it happen.<\/p>\n<p><!-- pagebreak --><\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/TextbookRental.ca\">TextbookRental.ca<\/a> CEO Brandon Luft, his company has reached an agreement with Indigo Books to bring them into the textbook rental market in Canada. Late last week a landing page was added to the Indigo site that links off to the TextbookRental.ca site.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bisg.org\/\">Book Industry Study Group<\/a> research found that textbook rentals rose last year from 8 per cent of the market to 11 per cent, with a corresponding drop in new textbook sales, from 59 to 55 per cent. There is also a sizeable second-hand market in textbooks.<\/p>\n<p>The Toronto-based startup also announced that they&#8217;ve added used textbooks to their offering.
