{"id":42199,"date":"2012-08-07T03:08:00","date_gmt":"2012-08-07T11:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/?p=42199"},"modified":"2012-08-07T03:08:22","modified_gmt":"2012-08-07T11:08:22","slug":"waterloo-is-using-a-big-event-in-america-to-promote-itself-as-canadas-innovation-hub","status":"publish","type":"magazine","link":"https:\/\/brainstation.io\/magazine\/waterloo-is-using-a-big-event-in-america-to-promote-itself-as-canadas-innovation-hub","title":{"rendered":"Waterloo is Using a Big Event in America to Promote Itself as Canada&#8217;s Innovation Hub"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: right; margin: 15px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hanyin.ca\/img\/locale\/uwaterloo_aerial.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Waterloo region is aggressively pitching itself as &#8220;a thriving tech hub and one of Canada&#8217;s best places to live.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>At the Province of Ontario pavilion <a href=\"http:\/\/s2012.siggraph.org\" target=\"_blank\">at the Siggraph 2012 exhibition<\/a> in Los Angeles, which started today, Waterloo is promotion the region as Canada&#8217;s top innovation hub&mdash;something other tech startup meccas like Vancouver, Montreal, and Toronto may take issue with.<\/p>\n<p><!-- pagebreak --><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We&rsquo;re pleased to partner with the Province and the City of Kitchener to showcase Waterloo Region&rsquo;s strengths in both innovation and lifestyle, and build awareness for talent attraction and investment,&rdquo; said Karen Gallant, Senior Director Talent Networks at Communitech.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It&rsquo;s exciting to see that Waterloo Region holds a strong place in the digital media industry. Investments such as the Communitech Hub in downtown Kitchener&mdash;where 100 digital media and mobility startups innovate every day&mdash;are really starting to have an impact,&rdquo; said Rod Regier, Executive Director Economic Development, City of Kitchener. &ldquo;These startups will need investors keen to capitalize on their innovation, and Siggraph puts the community and the tech cluster on the map.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Events like Siggraph are important for building the brand of the community as Canada&#8217;s hottest tech hub and a great place for foreign companies to expand their operations,&rdquo; said John J.
