{"id":59263,"date":"2014-11-17T10:11:00","date_gmt":"2014-11-17T06:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/?p=59263"},"modified":"2014-11-17T10:11:33","modified_gmt":"2014-11-17T06:11:33","slug":"edinburgh-street-fight","status":"publish","type":"magazine","link":"https:\/\/brainstation.io\/magazine\/edinburgh-street-fight","title":{"rendered":"Edinburgh Street Fight Caught on Google Maps, Promptly Taken Down"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 11px; float: right;\" src=\"https:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8584\/15627839747_51727daed8_o.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"222\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Google may have some explaining to do after its Street View featured a shot of two men fighting on Edinburgh&rsquo;s Princes Street, next to the city&rsquo;s famous Scott Monument.<\/p>\n<p><!-- pagebreak --><\/p>\n<p>The problem, as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scotsman.com\/news\/odd\/edinburgh-pranksters-spark-google-street-view-row-1-3605329\" target=\"_blank\">The Scotsman<\/a> reports, is that the two men were mere pranksters, staging a disagreement of sorts.<\/p>\n<p>The image was caught when the Google Street View team visited Edinburgh at the end of July.<\/p>\n<p>In the shot, a youth wearing a white t-shirt has his hands wrapped around the neck of a shorter man with a grey t-shirt, who is trying to throw a punch at him.<\/p>\n<p>Scottish council chiefs called the shot disappointing, noted the Scotsman, while City Centre councillor Joanna Mowat said it didn&rsquo;t portray the city correctly.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5613\/15813023995_8279df5fe9_b.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"334\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is disappointing that Google have chosen to use a picture which appears to be staged as some sort of homage to Trainspotting rather than an image that better reflects the true nature of Edinburgh&rsquo;s Princes Street,&rdquo; Mowat told the news outlet.<\/p>\n<p>The same set of images later featured the two jokers standing in Princes Street Gardens waiving their hands in the air while facing the Google Van.<\/p>\n<p>Once the camera drove past Princes Street, the pair can be seen walking back towards the scene of the fight.<\/p>\n<p>Google evidently quickly changed the photo, as today&rsquo;s shot is noticeably different:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5612\/15627840827_1ac5d77438_b.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"290\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A Google spokesperson told the news outlet that they did not wish to comment on the matter.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><em>Photos: Google Maps<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Google may have some explaining to do after its Street View featured a shot of two men fighting on Edinburgh&rsquo;s Princes Street, next to the city&rsquo;s famous Scott Monument.
