{"id":59803,"date":"2014-12-18T01:12:00","date_gmt":"2014-12-18T06:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/?p=59803"},"modified":"2018-02-26T22:10:58","modified_gmt":"2018-02-27T03:10:58","slug":"brainstation-coding-canada","status":"publish","type":"magazine","link":"https:\/\/brainstation.io\/magazine\/brainstation-coding-canada","title":{"rendered":"Konrad Group Acquires BrainStation: What&#8217;s Next for Coding Academies in Canada?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: right; margin: 11px 33px;\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7486\/15864854759_62e58680b5_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"333\" height=\"174\" \/>Konrad Group has acquired BrainStation.<\/p>\n<p><!-- pagebreak --><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.konradgroup.com\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\">Konrad<\/a>, an app design and development firm with offices across North America, bought <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brainstation.io.\/contact\/\" target=\"_blank\">BrainStation<\/a>, a Toronto-based company teaching students how to code through various local programs, for an undisclosed sum.<\/p>\n<p>BrainStation is one of only a few established coding schools in Canada, alongside <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techvibes.com\/blog\/five-coding-schools-2014-11-14\" target=\"_blank\">Bitmaker Labs in Toronto<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techvibes.com\/blog\/five-coding-schools-2014-11-14\" target=\"_blank\">DecodeMTL in Montreal<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techvibes.com\/blog\/five-coding-schools-2014-11-14\" target=\"_blank\">Codecore in Vancouver<\/a>. The company, which combines online and in-person courses to teach students the basics of building websites and apps, has received a $10 million injection of capital from Konrad through this acquisition to bolster its expansion.<\/p>\n<p>Although Bitmaker recently <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techvibes.com\/blog\/bitmaker-investment-2014-11-21\" target=\"_blank\">secured a &#8220;substantial&#8221; investment<\/a> and is known as Canada&#8217;s largest coding bootcamp, it remains a Toronto product. With $10 million in the bank, BrainStation says it plans to hire managerial, educational, and technical staff &#8220;across <span class=\"xn-location\">North America&#8221;<\/span>\u2014meaning it very well could become our Canada&#8217;s first national brand in the space.<\/p>\n<p>While it&#8217;s natural to look at Canada&#8217;s geography and build organizations catering exclusively to Vancouver or Toronto, this fragmented approach tends to oversaturate the market on a national level, forcing some eventual consolidation; look no further than the individually successful GrowLab and Extreme Startups <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techvibes.com\/blog\/extreme-startups-and-growlab-ventures-merge-to-become-highline-2014-08-19\" target=\"_blank\">merging into Highline<\/a> for a parallel.<\/p>\n<p>BrainStation was founded in 2013 by Jason Field, Duncan McCall and Apoorv Gupta.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Having worked for the last two years to build a world class curriculum and educational model, we are thrilled to see the torch taken up by Konrad Group&#8217;s leadership, and scaled globally,&#8221; said Gupta. &#8220;We will continue to support them as they capitalize on this emerging trend in education.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Konrad Group has acquired BrainStation.
