{"id":60847,"date":"2015-02-20T07:02:00","date_gmt":"2015-02-20T03:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/?p=60847"},"modified":"2015-02-22T07:02:10","modified_gmt":"2015-02-22T03:02:10","slug":"toronto-hardware-hackathon","status":"publish","type":"magazine","link":"https:\/\/brainstation.io\/magazine\/toronto-hardware-hackathon","title":{"rendered":"PCH to Host First Toronto Hardware Hackathon Next Month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 11px 22px; float: right;\" src=\"https:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8679\/15971889793_6a23ee70c8_o.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"319\" height=\"198\" \/>PCH, a company that designs manufacturing solutions for startups and Fortune 500 companies, today announced its first Toronto hardware hackathon.<\/p>\n<p><!-- pagebreak --><\/p>\n<p>The event, which takes place <span data-term=\"goog_428917182\">March 6 through 8<\/span> at the MaRS Discovery District, will include 100 makers, designers, entrepreneurs, and engineers who will get their hands dirty and compete to make the best working prototype in just one weekend.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hardwarehackathon.org\" target=\"_blank\">The hackthon<\/a> will kick off with a virtual talk and Q&amp;A by 3D Robotics CEO (and former Wired editor) Chris Anderson.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This hackathon is going to be high-energy, focused and above all fun,&#8221; said PCH Hackathon Lead Katherine Hague.&nbsp; &#8220;We have wonderful mentors to support participants, and a team who has done this several times and knows how to keep the energy going.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Beginning on <span data-term=\"goog_428917183\">Friday, March 6<\/span>, participants will form teams around an initial product concept, and by <span data-term=\"goog_428917184\">Sunday<\/span> night, they will have developed final prototypes to present to the event&rsquo;s panel of judges. There will be cash prizes for the top three winning teams including $3,000 for the first place team. The first place team will also receive $4,000 in services from Toronto engineering firm Connected Lab. The event will include one-on-one mentorship, optional workshops, speakers and pitch practice.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The maker community is really strong in Toronto, and we want this event to celebrate them,&#8221; Hague added. &#8220;It will be very interesting to see what new product ideas come from this event.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Hackathons are a great way to discover and support entrepreneurs who are passionate about brand, design and the customer experience,&rdquo; said PCH Founder and CEO Liam Casey. &ldquo;Hackathons are today&rsquo;s garages where companies get their start.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PCH, a company that designs manufacturing solutions for startups and Fortune 500 companies, today announced its first Toronto hardware hackathon.
