After a month of intense speculation, Salesforce\u2014the company which seemed <a href=\"https:\/\/borndigital.com\/2016\/10\/07\/salesforce-the-most-likely-to-buy-twitter\">most likely to acquire Twitter<\/a>\u2014decided against the move.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this case we\u2019ve walked away. It wasn\u2019t the right fit for us,\u201d Marc Benioff, chief executive of Salesforce, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/cms\/s\/0%2F2c8cdd72-922c-11e6-a72e-b428cb934b78.html?ft_site=falcon&amp;desktop=true#axzz4N5mIZNuW\">told FT<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Twitter&#8217;s shares dropped 6% on the news.<\/p>\n<p>Salesforce has not been shy about acquiring companies this year: Quip for $750 million, DemandWare for $2.8 billion, and Krux for $700 million come to mind. But Twitter was not right for Salesforce, says Benioff, though he avoided specific reasons.<\/p>\n<p>It will now be up to Jack Dorsey to continue his turnaround of Twitter. Challenges include monetizing the platform and growing a stagnant user base.
