{"id":76194,"date":"2016-12-09T15:59:39","date_gmt":"2016-12-09T20:59:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/techvibes.com\/?p=76194"},"modified":"2016-12-09T15:36:16","modified_gmt":"2016-12-09T20:36:16","slug":"ftc-providing-88-million-in-refunds-to-att-customers-who-were-overcharged-on-bills","status":"publish","type":"magazine","link":"https:\/\/brainstation.io\/magazine\/ftc-providing-88-million-in-refunds-to-att-customers-who-were-overcharged-on-bills","title":{"rendered":"FTC Providing $88 Million in Refunds to AT&#038;T Customers Who Were Overcharged on Bills"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Trade Commission is providing $88 million in refunds to 2.7 million AT&amp;T customers who had third-party charges added to their mobile bills without their consent.<\/p>\n<p>The tactic, known as \u201cmobile cramming,\u201d involved Tattoo and Acquinity tacking on additional charges to AT&amp;T customers&#8217; bills.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAT&amp;T received a high volume of complaints related to mobile cramming prior to the FTC and other federal and state agencies stepping in on consumers\u2019 behalf,\u201d said FTC Chairwoman Edith Ramirez. \u201cI am pleased that consumers are now being refunded their money and that AT&amp;T has changed its mobile billing practices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The refunds represent the most money ever returned to consumers in a mobile cramming case. Current customers will receive a credit on their bill and former customers will receive a check.
