Apple, in second, <a href=\"https:\/\/borndigital.com\/2017\/08\/02\/apple-reaches-all-time-high-pushing-dow-jones-to-into-new-territory\">sold 41 million iPhones<\/a>, up 2 per cent year-over-year.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest growth came from Chinese firms though: Huawei shipments jumped 20 per cent to 38 million, while Oppo and Xiaomi rounded out the top five with growth rates of 44 per cent and 52 per cent.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-88155\" src=\"https:\/\/d3ghupt9z9s6o0.cloudfront.net\/app\/uploads\/2017\/08\/13100238\/iphone.png\" alt=\"iphone\" width=\"843\" height=\"547\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d3ghupt9z9s6o0.cloudfront.net\/app\/uploads\/2017\/08\/13100238\/iphone.png 843w, https:\/\/d3ghupt9z9s6o0.cloudfront.net\/app\/uploads\/2017\/08\/13100238\/iphone-300x195.png 300w, https:\/\/d3ghupt9z9s6o0.cloudfront.net\/app\/uploads\/2017\/08\/13100238\/iphone-768x498.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 843px) 100vw, 843px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe smartphone market continued to grow in Q2,\u201d commented Canalys Research Analyst Vincent Thielke. \u201cSmartphone shipments to North America increased around 7 per cent year on year, with Apple growing 10 per cent.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Over 340 million smartphones shipped in Q2 2017, an increase of 4 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShipments of the S8 have been strong in some regions, but there are signs that demand has been overestimated,\u201d noted Canalys Senior Analyst Tim Coulling. \u201cCanalys\u2019 channels research has revealed inventory buildup in Europe, which when combined with discounting in the US, indicates Samsung may be testing the limits of Android smartphone pricing.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Samsung continues to lead the global smartphone market.
