{"id":93453,"date":"2017-09-28T11:00:32","date_gmt":"2017-09-28T15:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/techvibes.com\/?p=93453"},"modified":"2017-09-28T15:08:42","modified_gmt":"2017-09-28T19:08:42","slug":"blackberry-rewarded-for-software-shift-with-record-sales","status":"publish","type":"magazine","link":"https:\/\/brainstation.io\/magazine\/blackberry-rewarded-for-software-shift-with-record-sales","title":{"rendered":"BlackBerry Rewarded for Software Shift with Record Sales"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BlackBerry beat expectations today reporting a profit of $19 million USD or four\u00a0cents per share, a stronger-than-expected\u00a0net income for the company&#8217;s second quarter.<\/p>\n<p>The Waterloo-based company shifted their focus from hardware to software last year, halting the production of the once widely-used\u00a0BlackBerry smartphone after losing market share to\u00a0Apple and Samsung.<\/p>\n<p>BlackBerry&#8217;s total revenue for Q2 was $238 million.\u00a0Nearly three-quarters came from software and services that hit $185 million in sales\u2014a record for the company.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We achieved historical highs in total software and services revenue and gross margin, as well as the highest non-GAAP operating margin in over five years, reflecting our complete transformation to a software company,&#8221; said BlackBerry CEO John Chen\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.marketwired.com\/press-release\/blackberry-reports-record-software-services-revenue-fiscal-2018-second-quarter-nasdaq-bbry-2235329.htm\" target=\"_blank\">in a release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Chen also explained how BlackBerry has made &#8220;significant progress&#8221; on key growth initiatives\u00a0including enterprise billings, which grew 19 percent year over year. The company also expanded sales channels for its\u00a0IoT platform in Q2.\u00a0More than half of revenue generated in the second quarter\u00a0came\u00a0from North American clients.<\/p>\n<p>BlackBerry has also strengthened their position in security software, reporting its cloud-based FedRAMP program grew to 300,000 licensed users, up 162 percent over Q1.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Based on our progress thus far in FY18, we are on track to achieve software and services revenue growth in the range of 10 percent to 15 percent and profitability for the full year,&#8221; Chen\u00a0added.<\/p>\n<p>The results from the latest quarter are a good sign for the company that&#8217;s rebounding from a $372 million loss last year.<\/p>\n<p>This morning, BlackBerry shares were up nearly 13 per cent to 13 cents per share.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BlackBerry beat expectations today reporting a profit of $19 million USD or four\u00a0cents per share, a stronger-than-expected\u00a0net income for the company&#8217;s second quarter.
