{"id":94221,"date":"2017-10-06T14:00:19","date_gmt":"2017-10-06T18:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/techvibes.com\/?p=94221"},"modified":"2017-10-06T15:58:58","modified_gmt":"2017-10-06T19:58:58","slug":"torontos-creative-destruction-lab-selects-first-executive-director","status":"publish","type":"magazine","link":"https:\/\/brainstation.io\/magazine\/torontos-creative-destruction-lab-selects-first-executive-director","title":{"rendered":"Toronto&#8217;s Creative Destruction Lab Selects First Executive Director"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Toronto\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.creativedestructionlab.com\" target=\"_blank\">Creative Destruction Lab<\/a> has appointed\u00a0Sonia Sennik as the\u00a0seed-stage\u00a0accelerator program&#8217;s inaugural executive director.<\/p>\n<p>Sennik will be responsible for the Lab\u2019s strategic operational and programmatic leadership, coordination and oversight for its\u00a0national network of programs.<\/p>\n<p>While she has a professional and academic background in engineering,\u00a0Sennik is a recent graduate of the Rotman School\u2019s Executive MBA program where she was the\u00a0inaugural recipient of the Rotman Social Impact Award. As the executive director, Sennik will work closely with Ajay Agrawal, the founder and academic director of the Lab.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Creative Destruction Lab is expanding rapidly, both geographically and programmatically. Sonia will provide leadership, vision, and energy to help ensure the success of the Lab and its ventures in the coming years,\u201d said Agrawal, who launched the Lab in 2012 at\u00a0the Rotman School of Management.<\/p>\n<p>The Creative Destruction Lab is geared towards massively scalable, science-based startups.\u00a0The intensive program offers early-stage company founders mentorship, funding opportunities, business development support from MBA students, and advice from the Lab&#8217;s chief scientists.<\/p>\n<p>Since inception, the Lab has\u00a0added four new\u00a0programs outside the province, partnering\u00a0with business schools in Calgary, Halifax, Vancouver and Montreal. Each Lab program selects startups from a different set of science streams, from blue-green tech to quantum machine learning.<\/p>\n<p>While\u00a0securing venture capital isn&#8217;t guaranteed, many companies\u00a0have raised pre-seed or seed rounds ranging from $500,000 to several million in the program.<\/p>\n<p>The acclaimed\u00a0accelerator program has helped develop many notable tech companies including Waterloo-based Thalmic Labs, Toronto&#8217;s Deep Genomics, and Atomwise run from San Francisco.<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: right;\">Photo credit: University of Toronto<\/h6>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Toronto\u2019s Creative Destruction Lab has appointed\u00a0Sonia Sennik as the\u00a0seed-stage\u00a0accelerator program&#8217;s inaugural executive director.
