Amazon Launches AI Platform for Developers with Three Initial Services

Amazon has launched an AI platform. Announced at its re:Invent developer event in Las Vegas, the new service brings machine learning to third-party developers.

Amazon doesn’t have many consumer-facing artificial intelligence products, but the company says it has been investing in the technology for a long time. According to Amazon Web Services CEO Andy Jassy, the company has “thousands” of employees dedicated to AI.

The services initially available on Amazon’s AI platform are an image recognition service called “Rekognition,” a text-to-speech service called “Polly,” and a chat bot service called “Lex,” which is based on the technology behind Alexa.
