Amazon Working on Premium Echo-Like Device with Touchscreen

Amazon is developing an Echo-like speaker with a screen, a new report suggests, taking voice-controlled home gadgets to a new level.

According to sources cited in Bloomberg, the next-gen Echo will have a 7-inch touchscreen to access content visually. The device will also feature higher-quality speakers.

Consumer Intelligence Research Partners estimates Amazon has sold more than five million Echo units since the product launched in 2014, exceeding most expectations and showing there is surprising demand for smart home gizmos.

This new device—slated for an unveiling as early as the first quarter of 2017—will most likely be priced above Amazon’s other Alexa-based products: Dot, Tap, and Echo.

Amazon is not alone in this market. Google this year rolled out new smart home products and Apple is reportedly working on a Siri-based device.
