These are Canada’s Three Best Engineering Schools
The University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Engineering has been ranked as the best engineering school in Canada, according to research from Business Insider.
The U of W scored 2.79 out of five on BI’s system, good enough for 29th place in the world and first in Canada.
“Waterloo has the largest engineering school in Canada, and our students and faculty are among the best and most innovative in the world,” said Feridun Hamdullahpur, president and vice-chancellor of Waterloo. “It is an honour for us to be considered the leader in Canada, and ranked highly among the world’s best engineering schools.”
The other Canadian engineering schools to make the list of the world’s top 50 engineering schools were the University of Toronto (2.64) at 35th place and the University of Ottawa (2.22) at 44th.
“I’m delighted that we’ve been recognized as the number one engineering school in Canada,” said Pearl Sullivan, dean of engineering at Waterloo. “The ranking speaks volumes about the high quality of our students and alumni. Our exceptional faculty members continue to make a significant global impact through education and technological innovations in Canada and around the world.”
Waterloo is famous for educating the likes of Mike Lazaridis, who founded Research In Motion, formerly Canada’s largest and most profitable technology company.
However, some have called into question the quality of BI’s ranking methodology, both in comments on the actual article and on third-party websites such as Academia.
