Highmark Interactive Announces $2 Million in Seed Round Financing
Highmark Interactive announced today that they have secured $2 million in capital for their seed round of financing.
The Toronto-based organization is Canada’s first digital therapeutics company. The announcement of funding builds off the company’s recent acquisition of the award-winning game company XMG Studio. Highmark Interactive focuses its work on concussions and other traumatic brain injuries by using fun and engaging games to educate users while gathering basic neurological data to facilitate healing.
The investments for Highmark Interactive’s seed round include “top capital market investors, Canadian medical leaders and Olympic and professional athletes across many leagues,” according to a company press release.
Highmark Interactive plans to use the new investment money to grow the developing team and forge new distribution partnerships for its games.
“We believe our video game technology will revolutionize patient management as it relates to the concussion epidemic,” says CEO Andy Smith. “We’re incredibly excited for the release of our games and the opportunities that lie ahead.”
Highmark Interactive also announced the hiring of John Gardiner as new CFO. Gardiner is the former Director of Finance and Partnerships at Big Viking Games and brings knowledge of distribution and scaling company growth to Highmark.
“I feel privileged to be working in what I believe is Canada’s next big boom sector—medtech” says Gardiner. “The potential to help millions of people made my decision to join Highmark an easy one.”
Highmark is close to finalizing their advisory board and will announce details of the members soon.
