Although not immensely engaging in his style of presentation, YC president Sam Altman delivers a lecture of dense, valuable content for aspiring and seasoned entrepreneurs alike. Both part one and, now, part two are available on YouTube in video form or on Genius in written form.

“One thing that often disrupts momentum and really shouldn’t is competitors,” Altman notes during the lecture. “Competitors making noise in the press probably crushes a company’s momentum more often than any other external factor. Don’t worry about a competitor at all, until they’re actually beating you with a real, shipped product.”

“All of the advice … is geared towards people starting a business where the goal is hyper growth and eventually building a very large company,” Altman cautions. “Much of it doesn’t apply in other cases and I want to warn people up front, that if you try to do these things in a lot of big companies or non-startups, it won’t work.”
