TransferWise Launches Bot to Enable International Money Transfers Within Messenger Platform
TransferWise has brought its cross-border money transfer service to Messenger, providing the ability to move money between countries and currencies within Facebook’s instant messaging platform.
Users can now use Messenger to send money to their friends and families around the world at low fees and with real exchange rates. The TransferWise bot will be initially available to send money into and out of Canada, the US, UK, Australia, and Europe. The London-based company says its service will eventually expand to reflect the full scope of TransferWise’s reach of more than 50 countries.
“Our mission at TransferWise is to bring faster, cheaper, and more convenient international money transfers to everyone in the world,” said Scott Miller, Head of Global Partnerships for TransferWise. “Building the TransferWise bot for Messenger is a great step in that direction.”
Miller says anyone can interact with the bot to set up rate alerts to get notified of the exchange rate for their preferred currencies.
TransferWise, launched in 2011, has raised a total of $117 million in funding from investors like Andreessen Horowitz and Sir Richard Branson. The company was cofounded by Taavet Hinrikus and Kristo Käärmann.
