Volta Labs Expands in Downtown Halifax to Cultivate City’s Innovation District
Volta Labs is significantly expanding its office space as the organization looks to establish the surrounding area as Halifax’s “innovation district.”
Currently occupying 20,000 square feet of the nineteen-storey Maritime Centre downtown, Volta Labs has signed up to lease a 60,000 square foot chunk of the Barrington Street building.
“These new headquarters will allow Volta to be the growth catalyst for Halifax’s technology community, establishing a home base inside the city’s ‘Innovation District’ and attracting new interest from entrepreneurs,” said Jesse Rodgers, CEO of Volta Labs.
The new space, which will take over the ground, mezzanine and second floors, will form the cornerstone of the aforementioned district in the city.
“For many reasons, Halifax is a great place to build a technology-focused company and we are looking forward to providing more resources to these businesses,” added Rodgers.
The expansion, to be completed by early next year, will allow Volta to offer more space for resident startup companies, corporate innovation outposts, and network members. It will also offer a multi-purpose space, private meeting rooms, and coworking spaces.
“We are proud that the building has become an integral part of Halifax’s ‘Innovation District,’ with Volta as a marquee tenant,” said Scott Antoniak, Chief Executive Officer of Slate Office REIT, which leased the space to Volta. “We recognize the importance of the Maritime Centre’s location, design, amenities and function and its role in bringing together collaborative endeavours and ideas in the technology space.”
