Watch out BBM! Here comes Kik!

On Thursday, Waterloo-based Kik Interactive unveiled the next generation of Kik Messenger, a free, cross-platform mobile instant messaging service that makes texting conversations more real-time than ever before.

Recently out of beta, Kik Messenger (along with sent and received receipts) is four times faster than traditional SMS which means every message appears in real-time.

Only BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) provides similar receipts, but Kik Messenger stands apart because it works on ALL smartphones.

Ted Livingston is the President and CEO of Kik:

Kik Messenger offers the closest thing to a real-time, face-to-face conversation. And you can connect with all your friends, no matter what smartphone they use or where they live.  With the latest improvements and global reach, we expect more and more people to get Kik-ing.

To use Kik all you need is a mobile data plan.  And similar to BBM, Kik uses very little data.

Kik works with all iPhones, iPads and iPod Touch’s, most BlackBerry devices, and all Android devices.

Now we can all be friends!
