Alumni Stories: Teamwork Triumphs at IBM Design Sprint
Read a recap of the IBM Design Sprint with insights from the winning team about UX Design and BrainStation's bootcamp experience.
Connie graduated from the full-time UX Design program in Winter 2017. Before BrainStation, Connie was a freelancer, working on building pitch decks and sales decks for startups in Toronto and the US. Prior to freelancing, she was a marketing manager at a startup. Learn how Connie launched her career as a UX Designer.
“I didn’t have any experience with UX design, but I was doing UX without knowing it in some areas of my job. I sort of knew Photoshop, and I had a lot of experience storytelling through data, which I found very helpful in design.”
Why BrainStation? “I enrolled in the program because I wanted to be a Designer and move out of marketing, but I didn’t know how to do it on my own. I wanted structure and a community to help get me there. I was pretty excited, a little nervous, and somewhat oblivious to everything the program entailed. Wireframing and journey maps were very new to me and I wasn’t sure what to expect.”
Where is she now? “Coming out of the program, I accepted a position at Shopify as a design intern. The program is structured into three-week rotations across product and marketing and growth, so I’ll get to touch multiple areas of the business.”
