As Shomi Shutters, Employees Get Resourceful to Seek New Opportunities

Canadian video streaming service Shomi is shutting down just two years after launching. Despite being backed by telecom giants Shaw and Rogers, the Netflix competitor will shutter at the end of November.

David Asch, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Shomi, admitted that “the business is more challenging to operate than we expected.” Current members can stream until November 30. The service launched in November of 2014 as a Canadian-specific alternative to Netflix.

What will happen to all the Shomi employees? Resourcefully they created their own website for potential employers to take a look at what they can offer. features 100 soon-to-be-unemployed people across departments, including admin, marketing, and development.

“These people built an incredible product and company, from the ground up,” the website reads.
