BeauCoo Raises $1.1 Million to Connect Stylish Women with Similar Body Types

Calgary startup BeauCoo announced this morning that they have raised a $1.1 million financing round led by Zinc Ventures and angel investor Brad Zumwalt.

Zinc Ventures is a small Calgary-based venture capital firm controlled by Brad Zumwalt, who has has been growing technology companies for over 20 years. He was instrumental in leading technology companies such as Image Club Graphics, EyeWire.com, and Veer which were acquired by industry leaders Adobe Systems, Getty Images and Corbis.

Founded earlier this year by Christian MacLean, Victoria MacLean, Rick Cotter and Cory Smith, BeauCoo is a new platform designed to connect women of similar body types to share style and store information, earn real-world rewards and to improve their overall shopping experience.

For a platform that has yet to launch, the startup and its founders have had quite the year already. In March their mobile development shop Decoder was acquired and the four founders decided to branch off and undertake BeauCoo.

Husband and wife team Victoria and Christian MacLean are co-founders of both AcceleratorYYC and Startup Calgary but have recently stepped away from both organizations to focus full-time on BeauCoo.

The BeauCoo team is currently operating with a core team of 6 (with an industry defying 50/50 male to female ratio at present) but continue to work closely on a strategic level with Decoder.
