Dropbox to Disable Public Folders Next Year, Even for Pro Customers

Dropbox this week announced plans to remove its public folders feature next year.

The announcement is an extension of a past decision: Dropbox stopped the creation of public folders for new users in 2012.

The company this year removed the function for free users. Effective next September, Pro and Business users will also lose access to the public folders feature.

“Don’t worry,” says Dropbox. “You can quickly share anything with friends and colleagues—even if they don’t have Dropbox—by using a shared link.”

Dropbox, founded in Silicon Valley in 2007, has more than 500 million registered users.
