Analysis

Fox Sports has launched a completely redesigned app and website, offering “best in class” design as well as video and livestream functionality.

Using the Fox Sports App, available for Android and iOS devices, and FoxSports.com, sports fans can access video, storytelling, statistics, and live streaming. The app also offers Bonus Cam experience for enhanced fan access. The app also features enhanced personalization technology that offers users updated information on their favorite players and teams.

“FOX Sports is known for innovation, and this forward-looking digital redesign marks a new era,” said David Katz, EVP and head of digital at FOX Sports. “Modern sports fans are passionate, engaged and uncompromising. Our bold, distinctive products provide them a fresh way to experience the leagues, teams and players they love.”

According to Katz, most sports apps have not evolved much since the launch of the smartphone, so Fox Sports was looking to lead that change with a cleaner, more modern look and functionality to the app.

With large, swipeable images and video, the app has the feel of a social app, while also presenting the top sports news stories of the day.

“It’s a very kind of user intuitive way that people are consuming content and navigating quickly through things to see what they like and what they don’t like,” said Katz. “And when you decide you like something, you can either swipe up, or tap anywhere in the middle or the bottom of the picture and headline, and the story is revealed.”

The app also includes scores, in-game information, and gambling odds. Users with cable packages can sign on through their cable provider and stream games as they would on TV and take advantage of bonus camera angles. Users can watch in full-screen or “flip vertically to get real-time stats, projections, highlights, social feeds and more.”

Fox Sports is part of the Fox Broadcasting Company and serves sports fans in over six regions globally, averaging in 2019 over 5 million viewers in the United States on NFL Sunday alone. For last year’s Superbowl presentation, over 102 million viewers watched on Fox Sports.
