Former Woodbridge CEO Geoff Beattie Joins Relay Ventures as Chairman

Relay Ventures announced yesterday that Geoff Beattie has joined the firm as chairman.

Beattie is the former CEO of The Woodbridge Company, a privately held investment holding company for Canada’s Thomson family, where he served as president for 15 years. A long-time advisor to Relay Ventures, Beattie was instrumental in the launch of the firm’s first mobile fund in 2008.

“We have a strong history working with Geoff, and bringing him on board as Chairman is an important part of our strategic plan to establish Relay Ventures as Canada’s pre-eminent venture capital firm,” said John Albright, cofounder and managing partner at Relay Ventures.

Relay Ventures is the only early stage venture fund in North America focused exclusively on mobile computing. The firm has more than 40 mobile startups and later stage companies in its portfolio, and is the only Canadian VC fund with a full-time presence in Silicon Valley.

Relay has been active of late with a $16 million private placement in Score Media this past April. Other investments include Kira Talent, Influitive, ShopLocket, and TribeHR.
