Google Opens DeepMind So Any Developer Can Build New Artificial Intelligence

Alphabet has decided to open up DeepMind to the public. The Google-owned artificial intelligence platform is putting its source code on depository GitHub, the company announced this week.

Now, anyone can download the code and customize it to train their own AI systems. In addition, developers will be able to build game levels for DeepMind Lab and upload them to the depository.

Google bought DeepMind for $600 million. It has since been using the company’s AI to save hundreds of millions of dollars annually by making its massive data centers up to 15% more efficient.

Google also recently opened an AI research group in Montreal as part of a $4.5 million investment in the Montreal Institute for Learning Algorithms.
