Online Retailer Well.ca Acquired by McKesson Canada
Canadian e-commerce retailer Well.ca has been acquired by McKesson Canada.
The acquisition means the healthcare services company McKesson Canada can leverage Well.ca’s online commerce capabilities and offer a digital experience to its existing retail assets, including the Rexall pharmacy chain which has hundreds of storefronts across the country.
“Today’s customer wants a digital experience,” said Domenic Pilla, CEO of McKesson Canada. “Combined with McKesson Canada’s distribution network and retail footprint, patients and customers will have convenient access and more choices to achieve their health and wellness goals.”
Guelph-based Well.ca sells over 40,000 curated health, wellness, natural and baby products online and has been working with McKesson Canada since the e-tailer launched in 2008.
McKesson Canada said in a statement the acquisition will allow both its retail operations and Well.ca to expand its customer base and better service customers.
“Well.ca’s “digital-first” approach to retail has continuously pushed the boundaries of the customer experience in Canada,” said Rebecca McKillican, CEO of Well.ca. “Together with McKesson Canada, we will be able to establish new business relationships and accelerate our mission to help our customers live healthier and happier lives.”
The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Well.ca is retaining its existing brand and will remain headquartered in Guelph, Ontario as it operates as a distinct business within McKesson Canada.
