Ottawa a wireless powerhouse
When you think of Ottawa and technology you may think of Nortel and Corel. And there are others. However, Ottawa has since been repositioning themselves as a centre for wireless innovation. And Ottawa has a big booster in “Creative Class” pundit, Richard Florida.
Richard Florida rates Ottawa as the “Best Overall” city in Canada on a “Creative Class Index” based on the 3Ts of economic development – Technology, Talent and Tolerance.
Recently, the city of Ottawa took this message to the recent Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
DragonWave is one of Ottawa wireless companies. DragonWave expects revenue of $170 million in 2010 based on sales of its market-leading packet microwave solutions. “I wholeheartedly agree Ottawa is an excellent North American location to establish and grow a wireless business,” said Peter Allen, President and CEO of DragonWave.
Ottawa was recently named to the Top 7 Intelligent Communities in the world by the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF). Ottawa was recognized for its ability to respond and adapt to change, leverage collaborative partnerships and promote technology entrepreneurship.
