Prime Members Enjoyed Biggest Global Shopping Event in Amazon History
Amazon says that its third-annual Prime Day, held on July 11, surpassed Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales numbers for the ecommerce giant, making it “the biggest day ever in Amazon history.”
Prime Day sales for 2017 grew by more than 60% compared to last year, according to Amazon, and more new members joined Prime on July 11 than on any single day in Amazon history. In addition, the number of Prime members who bought something increased 50%.
“To those customers who tried Prime for the first time or are long time members, thank you for a great Prime Day,” said Greg Greeley, Vice President, Amazon Prime. “Our teams around the world will keep working to add more and more to your membership so Prime makes your life better every day.”
Amazon says top selling products included the Kindle Paperwhite, the Xbox One S, and a programmable pressure cooker from Instant Pot.
Before Prime Day 2017, Amazon’s premium subscription service had around 85 million members, according to data from CIRP.
