Rogers and Mojio Launch Canada’s First Connected Car Solution
Mojio has joined forces with Rogers and announced Canada’s first ever connected car solution to be delivered through a mobile carrier.
Vancouver-based Mojio is a leading platform for connected cars, while Rogers is one of the largest telecommunications companies in Canada.
This new service will be offered to existing Rogers customers and provide them with safety updates, in-car wifi and vehicle diagnostics. This move by Rogers represents their foray into the connected car movement while also demonstrating the rapid adoption of Mojio’s leading services.
Connected cars have been making news lately as many companies try to gain a foothold in the emerging market, and Mojio’s previous work with T-Mobile and Deutsche Telekom solidifies them as an industry leader.
The new program is called “Rogers Smart Drive” and will be accessible by current Rogers Share Everything users. It is driven by Mojio’s open platform for connected cars and will be compatible for most vehicles built after 1996. It plugs into a car’s OBD-II port, the same port used to test for emissions.
“Consumers are looking for more ways to stay connected wherever they are. Of the 24 million cars on Canada’s roads today, over three-quarters don’t have Wi-Fi or any connectivity features,” said Leroy Williams, Vice-President, Rogers Communications. “We’re excited to be the first carrier to introduce this kind of device to Canadians. Now, families can have peace of mind about their car maintenance and safety and can connect to the things and people they love worry-free.”
Rogers and Mojio plan to focus on three key aspects: family safety, vehicle diagnostics and in-car connectivity. Essentially the new service will keep your family safe and sound, your car driving smoothly and your little niece quiet as she streams Dora the Explorer in the backseat.
By the end of 2017, Mojio expects to have over 750,000 vehicles connected to its cloud-based network.
