The Winnipeg Jets are back but what about their old logo
The first round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft took place tonight and just before General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff made the team’s first pick, co-owner Mark Chipman made it official referring to the team as the Winnipeg Jets.
Whether True North Sports & Entertainment would reignite the Jets name or opt for a new identity has been the hottest topic around water coolers, pubs and produce aisles around Winnipeg.
Evander Kane, one of the team’s young stars, checked in on the choice on his Twitter page: It’s as official as a referee with a whistle. Officially a JET. #jetsflytogether.
Now that the team has an official name, the burning question is what will the team logo and uniforms look like? Vancouver’s HiretheWorld wants to be part of the answer.
Today at 4:00pm HiretheWorld launched an unofficial design contest and within the first couple hours there were already a couple new designs submitted.
HiretheWorld is offering $200 for the winning entry and will present the top entries to True North in two weeks. If there is any interest in any of the designs, HiretheWorld will pass on 100% of proceeds to the winning designer.
Chances are slim that HiretheWorld’s contest will be responsible as True North has been receiving unsolicited logo and jersey designs since announcing that the Atlanta Thrashers would be relocating to Winnipeg.
Look for True North to reveal the new logo and jersey design this summer with plenty of time for diehard fans to buy one in time for their home opener on October 9th against the Montreal Canadians.
