Vancouver’s Exploding Barrel Games Launches Margaritaville on Facebook and iOS [VIDEO]
Are you ready to live the island dream?
First announced back in May 2011, Vancouver-based startup Exploding Barrel Games has at long last launched Margaritaville Online, a free Facebook and iOS game. The social, cross-platform game is an “immersive, everyday escape” inspired by the lifestyle of Jimmy Buffett.
“The Margaritaville laid-back state of mind is inherently social, and this game has captured the spirit of that lifestyle,” said Jimmy Buffett, who consulted on the game. “With Margaritaville Online, fans across the globe can party together any time and any place.”
Friends will be able to play and party with great music and frozen concoctions in an open easy-going world, featuring exotic adventures, customized bars and outfits, and playful mini-games. A virtual trip to the tropics set to a soundtrack of classic Buffett tunes and featuring 3D visuals, Margaritaville Online allows players to interact with a wide cast of characters and exotic destinations full of fun and adventure. Margaritaville Online is a virtual playground that reminds players it’s always 5 o’clock somewhere!
“With both Facebook and iOS capabilities, players can now easily switch between devices and enjoy the same high quality experience regardless of the platform,” said Michael Lustenberger, Vice President, Global Brand Management, Online at THQ, which published the game. “The game’s goal is to provide a full and rich experience that is fun for anyone who wants to embrace the Margaritaville state of mind and escape to a virtual tropical paradise.”
The 3D-like graphics are a refreshing improvement over the lacklastre Zynga-style games that litter Mark Zuckerberg’s platform—although that should be expected, considering the game took nearly a year to develop. While free, it employs the now-common model of encouraging users to buy premium in-game virtual goods.
