Amazon Set to Expand in Toronto and Vancouver

Amazon may soon be signing new office space leases in two of Canada’s largest cities, according to the Financial Post.

The e-commerce retail giant already has teams working out of Toronto and Vancouver, as well as two fulfillment centers in both cities that collectively take up three million square feet.

According to Ross Moore, a senior vice-president with Cresa Vancouver Commercial Real Estate Services, Amazon is set to sign leases for 147,000 of additional square feet in downtown Vancouver and five floors of Toronto’s Scotia Plaza,

Moore said Amazon’s deal in Vancouver would double the company’s existing space in the city and that he’s heard about the plans for its Canadian expansion “more times than I can keep count.”

In Toronto, another source suggested to the Post that Amazon has a deal for 112,000 square feet in Scotia Plaza, adding to the company’s nearby Bremner Blvd. office.

While Amazon didn’t confirm the Financial Post’s reports, a spokesperson told the publication that they find “exceptional talent in both cities and are growing,” indicating the company has 100 open job postings in Toronto and 300 in Vancouver.

Amazon’s boost in hiring and yet-to-be confirmed bump in office space show the online giant is expanding its presence in the Canadian marketplace.
