Apple Launches Machine Learning Journal to Publicly Share Company Insights on AI
Apple debuted an online publication this week dedicated to artificial intelligence research.
The blog, called Apple Machine Learning Journal, has released its first topic: “Improving the Realism of Synthetic Images.”
The concept of the publication is for readers to tap into the minds of Apple engineers working on problems related to AI.
“Here you can read posts written by Apple engineers about their work using machine learning technologies to help build innovative products for millions of people around the world,” reads an intro. “If you’re a machine learning researcher or student, an engineer or developer, we’d love to hear your questions and feedback.”
The journal is not for the layman; the target demographic clearly skews toward workers and researchers active in the field. A sample sentence reads “We first train the refiner network with only self-regularization loss, and introduce the adversarial loss after the refiner network starts producing blurry versions of the input synthetic images.”
This is exactly what Apple needed to do—the AI space is at a heavily research-dependent stage and all companies are being encouraged to share knowledge to accelerate advancement. Apple, until now, was considered among the few holdouts hesitant to let others view its progress in AI.
