Ranked: The 25 Best Universities in Canada for Software Developers, Marketers, and More

If you’re a software developer, which is the best university to attend? How about a marketer? Or a finance professional?

LinkedIn has ranked Canada’s best schools across five professions based on an algorithm of top companies hiring for certain positions, where people in the field flock to for education, and the percentage of alumni at each school who land applicable careers at reputable firms.

“More than ever, students go to college because they want to get jobs—good jobs,” writes Navneet Kapur, a senior data scientist at LinkedIn, on the company’s blog. “To that end, students and parents want to know which schools give them the best chance at getting a desirable job after graduation.”

By analyzing employment patterns of 300 million LinkedIn members globally, Kapur says they figured out what the desirable jobs are within several professions and which graduates get those desirable jobs. “As a result,” he writes, “we are able to rank schools based on the career outcomes of their graduates.”

Below are the five best Canadian universities to graduate from if you want to be a software developer:

1. University of Waterloo

2. University of British Columbia

3. Simon Fraser University

4. University of Toronto

5. McGill University

And the three best schools for marketers:

1. Queen’s University

2. Wilfrid Laurier University

3. York University

Other professions listed include accounting professionals and investment bankers. You can also search data for US and UK schools. Each profession ranks up to 25 schools.
