Canada’s Best Small, Medium and Large Employers Unveiled
Finding a good job can be tough. Benefits, perks, salary and more can weigh on someone when deciding where to apply—not to mention the polarizing idea of “work culture.”
Thankfully, lists like Canada’s Top 100 Employers exists, and the 2018 edition has just been published featuring a host of tech companies in the rankings. The list has been going strong for 19 years now and offers a deep look into which employers lead their industries when it comes to creating exceptional workplaces.
Along with the overall Top 100 list, a second list identifying Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers for 2018 was also unveiled, offering a glimpse into some of the best employers at the SME level. This list in entering its fifth year of publication and features companies with less than 500 employees.
“For most working Canadians, it’s really like finding the Holy Grail,” said Richard Yerema, managing editor of Canada’s Top 100 Employers project at Mediacorp Canada Inc. “These employers offer fun, interesting, engaged workplaces where you can still get benefits like good maternity top-up or a decent retirement savings plan. It’s an attractive combination for employees looking for the best of both worlds.”

A large number of these companies are founded and based in Canada, adding a more local flair to the Top Employers list, as the usual top 100 often features international companies with Canadian locations. “This year, we’ve seen tremendous growth at many of the SME winners,” says Anthony Meehan, publisher at Mediacorp. “It’s not uncommon to see year-over-year employment growth of 50 per cent at some of the winners, providing excellent advancement opportunities for staff. It’s one of the reasons that small and medium employers have created more than 90 per cent of the private-sector jobs in the past decade.”
