CRTC Chairman Konrad von Finckenstein Has Left the Building; Leonard Katz Expected to Take Helm

Konrad von Finckenstein, the chairman of the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission, has officially left the building. His five-year term at the CRTC expired yesterday and there is no one yet designated to fill the role.

It is anticipated by many that Leonard Katz will take over as interim replacement today, though the position would be as temporary as possible. Leonard is currently vice-chairman of telecommunications for the CRTC.

Konrad’s time as chairman was turbulent, facing the controversial issue of Wind Mobile’s foreign financial backing and the infamous usage-based billing fiasco. Canada’s wireless industry has been under heavy scrutiny over the past few years, making the CRTC’s role arguably more critical than ever.
