Facebook Acquires Computer Vision Startup to Bolster Live Video Technology
Facebook’s latest acquisition is a computer vision startup.
The social network giant acquired Fayteq, based in Germany, for an undisclosed sum, according to an initial report from Deutsche Startups that was later confirmed by Facebook.
Fayteq develops technology to add and remove objects from videos. The startup sells plugins for editing software such as Adobe After Effects.
Facebook could leverage Fayteq’s technology for Facebook Live by implementing live object tracking. The German company’s patents and intellectual property could prove useful for augmented reality applications as well.
Fayteq will stop selling products and services to customers, the startup stated today.
