Guess What? The iPhone 3GS, Launched 3 Years Ago, Still Outsells Your Favourite Android Device
The Apple iPhone 4S launched last October and has sold millions as expected. On the Android front, Samsung’s lineup of Galaxy smartphones has been Apple’s toughest competitor, with the S II and S 4G both selling like hotcakes.
But while Android’s army of myriad different devices from several different manufacturers collectively outperforms Apple’s roster of one periodically updated model, Google’s platform still gets crushed on a one-to-one basis. In fact, new research from NPD Group has revealed that the iPhone 3GS—the two-generations-old Apple device launched way, way back in the summer of 2009—still outsells Android’s most popular current devices.
NPD ranked the top 10 best-selling smartphones in the U.S. for October and November 2011, its most recently released data. Number one, two, and three? A clean sweep: the iPhone 4S, the iPhone 4, and the iPhone 3GS. Android finally made an appearance following Apple’s trifecta with Samsung’s two flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S 4G and Galaxy S II, which took fourth and fifth respectively.
Rounding out the top 10 were the HTC Inspire 4G, Motorola Droid Bionic, HTC Evo 4G, Samsung Epic 4G, and LG Revere.
