Engineers Without Borders Canada is Working with African Innovators to Foster Social Entrepreneurship
Engineers Without Borders is a community of students, professionals and fellows working to create systemic change in Canada and Sub-Saharan Africa.
A movement of thousands of members who share a passion for addressing the root causes of poverty and inequality, EWB is striving to achieve a world where Canadian and African governments, institutions, and people working together to unlock human potential and accelerate sustainable, inclusive global development.
With the creation of EWB’s 2020 Vision in 2012, EWB’s work expanded to include systems change. EWB saw that many of the barriers to development are higher up in the system: they’re happening with donor funding requirements, with international trade policies, with rich countries’ aid restrictions and broken commitments. Within EWB’s Venture and Incubator model, the organization fosters entrepreneurship and cultivates social innovation in Africa.
Currently the nonprofit organization is recruiting web developers, software engineers, data scientists, and more to work with ventures in Kenya, Uganda, and Ghana. These positions, termed Long-Term Fellowships, are one-year volunteer contracts.
“These are incredible opportunities for young professionals to step outside their comfort zones and do some really interesting and inspiring work with leaders in Africa,” EWB says.
Check out the current opportunities with EWB here. Applications for this intake round close July 23rd, 2016 at midnight EST, but applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis so please apply immediately.
