Magmic Games brings Rubik’s Cube to touchscreens
Ottawa’s Magmic Games has brought the classic Rubik’s Cube puzzle to the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
The game puts a virtual cube on a touch screen where it can be rotated until the colours line up properly. For the frustrated or just lazy, the game can also solve the cube for you.
“Rubik’s Cube is the greatest puzzle ever invented,” said Magmic’s Director of Product Management, Jeff Bacon in a press release.
“We were excited to take it to a powerful smartphone, and to enrich the experience. It’s nothing short of a rebirth for this amazing invention.”
The Magmic Rubik’s Cube app is the first and so far only official virtual Rubik’s Cube endorsed by inventor Erno Rubik.
While the game includes the classic 3x3x3 cube, additional challenges can be played with larger cubes as well as the “extra-challenging CRAZY Cube.”
For those who’ve obtained the new iPhone 4, the game takes full advantage of the new gyroscope and provides a full 360-degree view.
Other features include 3D mode and cube personalization.
Interestingly, it also has a “solver” for real Cubes. Use the iPhone’s camera to take a picture of an actual Rubik’s Cube and the game will figure out the solution.
The game is available from the iTunes app store for $2.99 and requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later.
