Microsoft, LinkedIn Encourage Girls to Pursue STEM Fields on International Women’s Day

Today is International Women’s Day, which brings attention to women’s equality. There is a gender gap in STEM fields, according to the World Economic Forum, who states that 16% of female students graduate from STEM subjects. It is projected that 2.4 million STEM jobs will go unfilled.

Today, Microsoft released a video challenging girls to stay in STEM “so they are empowered to solve the problems they care about most.”

Additionally, Microsoft and LinkedIn have launched an experiential tool in conjunction with the campaign to demonstrate how girls can pursue their passions. The Career Explorer is a tool to show women different ways that STEM is in demand and inspire them to pursue talents and skills in these areas. The tool is inspired by the insight that by 2018, it is projected that 2.4 million STEM jobs will go unfilled.
