Mobile Monday Launches in Edmonton with MoMoYEG ONE
Monday, September 17th marked a big day in Edmonton. This day will be remembered for the first formal Mobile Monday event, co-hosted by StartupEdmonton in partnership with Digital Alberta.
More than 50 people gathered for the event, which was held in the historic Mercer Building on the 104th Street Promenade featuring a panel of local industry experts.
For an hour and a half, Sam Huang (PureInbox), Paul Letourneau (DDB Canada), Mack Male (Questionmark Computing), Chad Smith (Hybrid Forge), and Randy Troppmann (Runningmap.com) discussed mobile developer tools, strategies, and the ever-present platform debate. The panel was moderated by Ricardo Casanova from Mobile Data Solutions. Special hometown guest Lawrence Cosh-Ishii (Mobikyo/Wireless Watch) was in town from his current residence in Tokyo adding his observations throughout the evening.
The panel was set up to start with a debate on developer tools, with each panelist defending their toolset of choice between Adobe Air, Appcelerator Titanium, IntelliJ, Microsoft Windows 8, and WordPress. After some back and forth between the panelists, questions from the audience brought the conversation to a much broader level. Topics such as attention fragmentation, wearable technologies, market growth areas vs. platform market share as well as the future of mobile hardware were touched upon.
After this session was wrapped up, the Digital Alberta team hosted the attendees for their Fall Mixer.
