More People Want to Quit Social Media Than Smoking, Research Reveals

More people want to quit social media than smoking this year, new research suggests.

According to a survey carried out by online local services marketplace Bidvine.com, 10% of people want to quit social media in 2017 while 8% want to quit smoking.

“The latest research has shown that excessive social media use can also be bad for your health,” said CEO Sohrab Jahanbani.

A recent paper, “Use of multiple social media platforms and symptoms of depression and anxiety,” shows people using seven or more social media platforms had three times the risk of depression and anxiety than those using two or fewer platforms—even after adjusting for net time spent on social media.
