Nintendo Blurs Line Between Mobile and Home Gaming with Latest Console, “Switch”

Nintendo has finally unveiled its next-gen console. The code-named “NX” platform is in fact called Switch.

Switch is both a mobile and at-home console: you can dock it at home and play with traditional console controllers or you can bring the tablet on the go and play from anywhere.

“In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system also enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose,” Nintendo says. “The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles.”

Nintendo doesn’t offer much detail in its three-minute teaser video, instead just pushing the idea of seamless transitions between gaming at home and on the move. It’s a novel concept, in any case.

The Nintendo Switch is slated to launch in March 2017.
