Nvidia the Latest Company to Test Self-Driving Cars on California Roads

Nvidia has been granted a permit by the California Department of Motor Vehicles to test self-driving cars on public roads.

California leads the US in terms of autonomous driving allowance. Several companies, including Google, Tesla and BMW have permission to test self-driving technology in the state.

Nvidia’s roots are in graphics cards but the company has been quietly developing artificial intelligence for years, with autonomous driving as an end goal. The company this year built Drive PX2, an open AI car computing platform that enables automakers to accelerate production of automated vehicles.

Other companies testing autonomous technology in California include Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, and Ford.
