Sony Ericsson and Fido launch eco-phone
Sony Ericsson has just launched its new “green” phone in Canada. The phone, called Naite, will be available exclusively through Fido. According to their pres release the “Naite handset delivers both on Sony Ericsson’s GreenHeart commitment to reduce negative environmental impacts through its products, and Fido’s commitment to provide its environmentally-conscious customers with more choice when it comes to selecting a handset that suits their needs and complements their values.”
Andrea Gaul is the General Manager of Sony Ericsson in Canada:
We are excited to be offering Sony Ericsson GreenHeart phones to our Canadian customers. Being environmentally conscious shouldn’t mean consumers have to sacrifice features or style so we’ve created a phone that is packed with great features to help consumers manage their busy lives while supporting Sony Ericsson’s GreenHeart commitments.
So what exactly is so green about Naite? First off, the casing is made from 50% post-consumer recycled plastic. The package will also include, or not include, a manual. Want one? Use the e-manual instead. Finally, you can also charge the phone via a low-power consumption charger.
There is also a pre-loaded C02 emissions calculator called EcoMate. “EcoMate helps users keep track of the CO2 emissions their lifestyle creates.” So, if you’re wondering if your carbon footprint needs a little re-sizing, EcoMate will help you determine that.
Sony Ericsson has also loaded the phone with all the bells and whistles GenY mobile devices users are used to: Mp3 and FM players, pre-loaded Facebook and Twiter applications, and a 2.0 mega-pixel camera.
