Elon Musk Reveals Tesla Master Plan that Includes Solar Roofs, 10X Safer Self-Driving, and Car-Sharing
A decade ago, Elon Musk wrote an open letter entitled “The Secret Tesla Motors Master Plan (just between you and me).”
Fast-forward 10 years, Musk hinted last week at the release of part two of his master plan.
Musk fans and Tesla Motors pundits instantly assumed that his big announcement would be related to Tesla Motors’ offer last month to acquire SolarCity. And the company’s recent trademark filings and domain name change from TeslaMotors.com to Tesla.com certainly supported that assumption.
Well, they’re only partially correct. Musk announced part two of his master plan today and summarized it as follows:
So, in short, Master Plan, Part Deux is:
- Create stunning solar roofs with seamlessly integrated battery storage
- Expand the electric vehicle product line to address all major segments
- Develop a self-driving capability that is 10X safer than manual via massive fleet learning
- Enable your car to make money for you when you aren’t using it
